New Year, New Lockdown, Same Essential Business

We may be starting 2021 with a new lockdown, but you can be sure of one thing: cycling is essential, and we are open and eager to get you out cycling safely, comfortably and confidently.

We remain open as usual, with new hours, Tuesday to Saturday every week (Closed Sunday and Monday).

Cycling has never been more essential than it is during this pandemic – it’s a quick and safe form of transport and exercise, and gets you out moving and breathing fresh air while keeping a physical distance.

Over our first six months repairing bikes for the wonderful people of Crouch End, Hornsey, Muswell Hill and all around, we’ve been awed and inspired by our customers: from people who haven’t cycled in years (or ever) picking up bikes to commute and exercise, to seasoned cyclists keeping at it despite restrictions on travel and groups.

The cycling boom is only just beginning and will keep growing. The government’s guidance on the new lockdown explicitly urges people to travel by foot or bike if possible. Add to that the spread of low-traffic neighbourhoods in London (albeit uneven) and the gradual return of bikes in stock this year (we hope!).

Running a new, local and essential business in pandemic times has been a joy, but comes with its obvious challenges too. Stock of parts, accessories and bikes remains hard to find and delayed, which means we can’t always get you out cycling as quickly as we’d like.

We very much appreciate your understanding and support! Butternut Bikes continues to develop, and our supply of essentials is growing – including helmets, locks, inner tubes, tyres, lights, socks and gloves, baskets, panniers, cleaning products, shoes and even bikes for kids and adults. We always try to fix punctures while you wait.

Our new online booking system also makes it easier for you to schedule a bike service in your own time and for us to communicate with you about extra work or parts that may be needed, based on our expert assessment. Pricing for services and parts can also be found at butternutbikes.co.uk.

And, as a new and local business, we continue to appreciate the support of our wonderful customers and cycling community – in whatever form that takes! Please don’t forget to write us a Google review if you haven’t already, drop in to say hello – snacks & treats always appreciated 😉 – or buy a Butternut Bikes t-shirt (£20).

Thank you, happy new year, and #KeepPedalling!
