Description
The Estarli eCargo is one of those bikes that surprised us in a good way. It’s a big, proper longtail cargo bike with a genuinely strong spec, but at a price that undercuts a lot of the usual suspects. For a British brand, designed and built locally in Hertfordshire, it punches well above its weight.
On the road it feels much more like a normal bike than most people expect from something this capable. The longtail layout means it’s easier to ride, easier to park, and generally less intimidating than a big front-loader, especially if you’re new to cargo bikes. Around town, through traffic, and on school runs, it just feels straightforward and confidence-inspiring.
Where it really stands out is on hills and with a load on. The mid-drive motor has loads of torque, and paired with the massive battery it means you’re not constantly worrying about range or whether it’s going to grind to a halt halfway up a climb. We’ve ridden it properly loaded and it still feels willing. If your local riding looks anything like North London, Bristol, Sheffield, or anywhere else with proper hills, this bike makes a lot of sense.
The drivetrain is exactly what you want on a family cargo bike. Gates belt drive and Enviolo Heavy Duty hub means it’s quiet, smooth, and low maintenance. No oily chains, no crunchy shifts under load, and much less faff if you’re lifting kids on and off every day. It’s the kind of setup that just gets on with the job, year round.
It’s also properly rated for carrying, with a 210 kg total load limit including rider. That gives you loads of headroom for kids, shopping, school bags, sports kit, and all the extra stuff that somehow appears when you’ve got a family. Accessories are available for carrying children safely, and there’s a growing range of add-ons if you want to tailor it to your setup.
The bit that really makes this bike stand out though is value. For a mid-drive, belt-drive longtail with this carrying capacity and battery size, it’s significantly cheaper than many of the big-name alternatives. You’re getting a lot of bike for the money, without feeling like corners have been cut where it matters.
We’ve got the Estarli eCargo in store and available for test rides, which we’d strongly recommend. It’s one of those bikes that makes more sense once you’ve actually ridden it, especially if you’re on the fence about going cargo.
If you want a big, capable family cargo bike, with proper kit, from a British company, at a price that doesn’t make your eyes water, this is a very strong contender.
If you’re comparing this to premium longtail cargo bikes like the Tern GSD, it’s worth test riding both. The Estarli offers excellent value and carrying capacity, while bikes like the Tern GSD focus more on ride quality, handling, and long-term refinement. We’re happy to help you compare options side by side and that’s why it’s well worth doing a test ride.
