Lake on the MXZ305

In 1997, Lake invented the first true winter-specific cycling shoe, the MXZ300. The unique boot shape and construction allow us to trap warm air, which is the best insulator for any type of footwear. The pattern is designed so it doesn’t restrict blood flow to the foot, as it is your foot that creates the heat the boot is designed to trap. Keeping that trapped heat in as air allows two things to occur: your foot stays warm and dry.
Because the MXZ305 uses a highly breathable leather upper and temperature-regulating, wicking lining, sweat is transferred away from the foot so that it does not freeze against it, keeping your foot comfortable. The MXZ305 is the fifth generation of that legacy and continues to be the best of the best as the top winter-specific cycling shoe of choice.
Sizing Suggestion: For use with winter weight socks we recommend ordering 1-1.5 sizes up from your usual Lake Cycling shoe size.

Fit and build

Fit: Roomy by design through the toe box to preserve circulation, sock volume, and trapped warm air. The heel and midfoot stay secure, so the insulated boot feels stable under load rather than loose.

Upper: American full grain leather construction provides weather-ready structure and durability, while Helcor-reinforced zones add abrasion protection. The tall winter upper is built around insulation space, moisture management, and secure heel/ midfoot hold for stable pedaling.

Sole: The MXZ305 uses Lake’s 50/50 winter sole with a fiberglass-injected nylon platform and Ultra Bomb-Proof Enduro sole. The platform supports efficient pedaling with controlled flex, while broad rubber traction and glass- injected tread inserts help provide grip across snow, ice, and rough winter surfaces.

Closure: The tongue-mounted Mid Power M4 BOA® system adjusts fit across the insulated upper. The protective over-flap and hook-and-loop closure help shield the front of the boot from snow, ice, and debris while remaining easier to manage in cold conditions.
