We didn’t think we were the sort of shop to sell fat-tyred e-bikes, but we tried the UTO OG200 and it really made us smile. Everyone who rides it says the same thing: it’s such fun! It’s well made by UTO in France, with good support, spare parts and a whopping 200kg payload. If we had the money, this would be the best bike for going to the pub and giving your partner a lift home, but it rides great with just you on it, a kid on the MIK HD rack seat, or indeed a partner and a kid. Come and try our demo bike up the hill in front of the shop, and if you don’t come back with a smile on your face, I’ll eat my beret.
Who it suits
It’s for riders who want one bike that does the lot: the commute on your own, a lift for a second adult on the long padded saddle with rear footrests, or the school run with a child seat on the back. The 200kg limit covers rider, passengers and cargo together, and UTO rate it for two adults and a child, or an adult and two children. Big 4″ Schwalbe tyres, a suspension fork and twin rear shocks soak up potholes, speed bumps and cobbles, and the low step-through frame makes getting on and off easy even when it’s loaded. A start-assist trigger gets you moving from standstill without the wobble, and the centre stand holds it steady while you load up or strap a child in.
Worth knowing before you come in: the standard saddle suits riders from about 1.55m to 1.75m. Taller riders need UTO’s optional high saddle, which takes it up to around 1.90m, so tell us your height when you book and we’ll have the right setup ready. It’s a big bike at 34kg and 1.81m long, so it wants ground-floor storage rather than a flight of stairs. Front and rear MIK racks are optional extras, with the rear MIK HD rack taking 27kg or a child seat.
