A cargo bike built around a passenger
The Tern HSD P00 is a compact electric cargo bike built to take a passenger on the back. Its rear rack carries 80kg and the whole bike is rated to 190kg, which covers a child seat, a growing child, or an adult sitting behind you.
It does that on 20-inch wheels and a frame roughly as long as a normal bike, so it fits through doorways, lives indoors, and stands upright on its rear rack when parked. You don’t need to reorganise your house around where to keep it.
Gears that shift smoothly, even at a standstill
The P00’s Enviolo hub has no fixed gears. You turn a dial on the handlebar and the gearing slides to wherever you want it, including while you’re stationary at a red light with a child on the back and a hill in front of you.
If your riding is a chain of junctions, traffic lights and short climbs, this takes a small decision out of every one of them. It’s also the easiest bike to hand to someone who isn’t a confident cyclist, because there’s no such thing as being in the wrong gear. Paired with the Gates belt drive that every UK HSD runs, there’s nothing to oil and very little to go wrong.
Grows with your family
Tern’s seats, handrails and footrests fit the HSD from toddler size upwards and change over as your child does. The bike you buy for the nursery run still works for the secondary school run, and with the adult-rated setup it’ll carry a grown-up passenger too. Very little you buy for a two-year-old is still in daily use eight years later.
Good to ride with an empty rack
The Bosch Performance Line motor’s 75Nm gets you up local hills loaded, and with the seat off you’re left with a comfortable, upright bike that’s genuinely pleasant for commuting or the shops. That’s the difference between a bike that takes over your car journeys and one that only comes out on school mornings.
Fits tall riders, short riders, and both in one household
One frame covers roughly 4’11" to 6’9" and riders up to 130kg, and the cockpit adjusts without tools. If two adults of different heights are going to share the bike, that matters more than any spec on the drivetrain, because a bike that takes a minute of fiddling at every handover is a bike one of you stops using.
The accessories are half the bike
An HSD becomes yours through what you put on it. Captain’s Chair and Clubhouse Mini rails for the passenger, Storm Shield Mini when the weather turns, Storm Box Mini for the shopping run, Transporteur front rack, Hauler Rack, and the Duostand to hold everything steady while you load up. Tern have thought the system through properly and the parts work together.

Most of our HSDs are bought through Cycle to Work, which makes a real difference to what you pay. We work with all the main schemes and we’ll talk you through how it applies to a bike at this price. Come in and we’ll get it sorted.
You can also order online in Sky Mist, Basalt or Honey. We normally have Terns in stock, and a bike that isn’t here is usually a day away from the distributor. The Gen 3 HSDs are the exception for now. The P00 is due into the country in September, and every dealer is waiting on that same delivery whatever their website says. Order or reserve one now and yours comes off it.
