Description
What it is
The Quick Haul is the smallest of Tern’s electric cargo bikes. Twenty inch wheels, a low step over and a rear rack that takes 50 kg, on a bike about the size of a normal one. It’s light for a cargo bike at 23 kg, so it’s nice and nimble to ride on the days you’re not carrying anyone, and like all the Terns it stores upright on its back end.
Who it suits
It’s really good for carrying one kid. Start them in a child seat, then move to the Captain’s Chair when they’re bigger, and the Tern Stirrups give them somewhere to put their feet. They’re all right on this bike right up to the rack’s 50 kg limit, which includes the seat and any bags, so that’s a good few years of school runs.
If you’ve got one big kid already, have a look at the Quick Haul Long as well, if you have the space. At £3,500 it’s a bargain, it has a more powerful motor, it’s still quite light, and there’s loads of room on the back for them and sometimes a friend. If you want to carry an adult, or you’d like a more fully featured bike, the HSD’s rack takes 80 kg. The previous generation HSD in green is £3,600 at the moment, and the new HSD Gen 3 starts at £4,400.

- Fits riders from 160 to 195 cm, or 145 to 180 cm with the shorter seatpost, and the stem adjusts without tools so two people can share it
- 49 cm step over, so it’s easy to get on and off with a load on the back
